KANAKO will cover a Pink Lady classic

It has been announced that KANAKO will participate in 'Legend of Pink Lady Now and Forever,' a tribute album celebrating the 50th anniversary of Pink Lady's debut.

The album features 11 hit songs covered by a variety of artists, with KANAKO performing "Nagisa no Sindbad."

Pink Lady is the legendary female idol duo consisting of Mie (Nemoto Mitsuyo) and Kei (Masuda Keiko), who became a nationwide phenomenon in Japan during the late 1970s.

The duo made their major debut in 1976 with the single "Pepper Keibu." They quickly rose to stardom with their bold, revealing costumes and energetic, passionate dance performances, breaking away from the conventional image of idols at the time. They went on to release a remarkable string of million-selling hits, including "S.O.S," "Carmen '77," "Nagisa no Sindbad," "Wanted," "UFO," and "Southpaw." Their catchy choreography was imitated by people of all ages across Japan, and their merchandise filled stores nationwide, making them one of the defining pop culture icons of the era.

Although Pink Lady disbanded in 1981 at the height of their popularity, the duo has reunited several times for limited periods over the years. Their music continues to be loved by multiple generations, while both Mie and Kei remain active performers today.

The tribute album also features AKB48 member Ito Momoka, who was mentioned in a previous article, as well as Suzuki Airi, who attended the same high school class as KANAKO.

The cover album will be released on August 26. The first-press limited edition will also include the original recordings of the songs covered on the album.
