The Mayor of the Village Hosting MCZ's Autumn Live Concert Resigns
Odaka Yoichi, the 74-year-old mayor of Chosei Village in Chiba Prefecture, where MCZ is scheduled to hold a large-scale live concert this autumn, has submitted his resignation to the village assembly, and it has been accepted.
Mayor Odaka had already been undergoing medical treatment for some time. As a result, the vice mayor had been handling media promotions related to the MCZ concert from the outset.
Under Japan's Public Offices Election Act, a mayoral election must be held within 50 days from the day after a resignation is accepted.
Chosei Village Office must now begin preparations for the election to choose the next mayor.
Compared with previous concert host locations, Chosei is a small village with a relatively limited number of municipal staff. Village employees were already expected to face a significant workload in preparing for the live event, and there is now concern that organizing the mayoral election will add yet another major responsibility.
Hopefully, the autumn concert will proceed smoothly, and attendees will have the opportunity to see the newly elected mayor deliver a welcoming address.
