Two New Regular Shows to Premiere

It has been announced that MCZ will launch not just one, but two new regular programs on TV Asahi platforms during July.

The first is "Momoclo chant!", which premieres on CS TV Asahi Channel 1 at 7:00 p.m. on July 25.

Hosted by Tsukaji Muga of Drunk Dragon, the program is described as an educational entertainment show that enthusiastically "chants" for, or supports, Japan's culture and technology.

The theme of the first episode is moss. Reni visits Tokyo University of Agriculture together with Ito Seiko, who is well known for his knowledge of plants. The episode explores surprising facts, such as that around 2,000 of the world's roughly 20,000 species of moss can be found in Japan, while also examining the potential of moss to help address future food shortages.

The second program is "Maji Producer, Momoclo.", which begins streaming on TV Asahi's "logirl" service at 6:00 p.m. on July 31.

In this documentary-variety series, Momoclo, now celebrating its 18th anniversary, is entrusted by TV Asahi with producing events and video content. Over the course of approximately six months, the members work together to create a single project from start to finish.

The theme of the first installment is a haunted house. The program follows the group's efforts to develop a real attraction from scratch, beginning with no concrete ideas and no venue.  Iizuka Satoshi of Tokyo 03 will support the project as assistant producer.

This spring, all of MCZ's television programs came to an end, so the launch of these two new shows is certainly welcome news. However, from the perspective of a Mononofus, it is also a little disappointing that both programs will be available only through paid platforms, one on a subscription CS channel and the other via a paid streaming service.

Hopefully, before long, MCZ will once again have opportunities to reach a much wider audience through terrestrial television or BS broadcasting.
