Rare archived footage of MCZ has been discovered
A post was made on the X account of Onagawa Saigai FM, a temporary disaster-response FM radio station that had already ceased operations 10 years ago, sharing an article along with a video featuring valuable scenes from MCZ's past radio appearance. (See below.)
Onagawa Saigai FM was a temporary FM radio station established in Onagawa Town, Miyagi Prefecture, which suffered severe damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 2011. The station was created to provide information necessary for recovery and reconstruction following the disaster, and it broadcast for five years from April 21, 2011 to March 29, 2016.
Yesterday marked exactly 10 years since the station went off the air, and to commemorate the occasion, the X account posted newly "unearthed" footage, including scenes from its final broadcast.
Alongside this 10-year-old footage, another video was also released: studio-recorded camera footage from May 15, 2013, when MCZ made their first visit to the station and appeared live on the radio program Onagawa Now.
During that broadcast, a message was received from a local listener asking them to become "friends of Onagawa Town." Since then, MCZ has made it a point to include the phrase "We are friends of Onagawa Town!" whenever they greet people there.
In addition, a message sent in during the latter half of the program read, "This town lost all its color due to the tsunami. Please bring MCZ's colorful spirit to it."
It is said that their response to this message was later carried into MCZ's well-known song Monoclo Dessin (means 'Monochrome Dessin'), released in 2016.
