MCZ Teams Up with Heisei-Era Favorites Narumiya Characters

MCZ has announced a collaboration with Narumiya Characters, the beloved mascots of Japanese children’s fashion brands that defined the Heisei era.

Newly photographed visuals showing the MCZ members as if they had stepped into the world of Narumiya Characters have been unveiled, along with specially drawn illustrations of the group.

Narumiya Characters are mascots created by Narumiya International, a Japanese apparel company whose junior fashion brands, including Angel Blue, Mezzo Piano, Pom Ponette, and Daisy Lovers, were hugely popular in the 2000s.

Among the best known are Nakamura-kun from Angel Blue and Berrie-chan from Mezzo Piano, both of whom were favorites among young girls at the time. Although the craze eventually faded, the characters have enjoyed a resurgence in recent years, fueled by renewed interest in Heisei retro culture and Y2K fashion.

Their appeal now reaches beyond the women in their 20s and 30s who grew up with the brands. Younger fans, including Gen Z, have embraced the characters as icons of contemporary kawaii culture. A recent pop-up shop at Lumine Shinjuku drew long queues, with numbered admission tickets required.

The collaboration with MCZ consists of three main projects.

The first is an online lottery (kuji) scheduled to go on sale in late November. Further details will be announced soon on the official X account of Raffle (@Raffle_info).

The second is a line of official collaboration merchandise, including T-shirts, face towels, plush keychains, drawstring pouches, stickers, and photo cards. The items will be sold through a made-to-order online store, with details due in early November.

The third will transform the lobby at every venue of MCZ’s Christmas tour, Momochri- Delivery, into the “Momoiro Clover Z x Narumiya Characters Rainbow Lobby,” decorated with signage, life-size character panels, and banners.

The broad age range of Mononofu makes this a promising match, and it will be worth watching how it plays out.
