SHIORI's film is putting up a solid performance

As previously reported, SHIORI appears in the film "Odoru Daisousasen N.E.W. Metropolis wo Kakenukero!" directed by Motohiro Katsuyuki, which was released on September 18.

She plays Kakei Renon, a nurse at a Metropolitan Police Department clinic.

Set in Tokyo in the Reiwa era, with Aoshima Shunsaku, played by Oda Yuji, having moved to the First Investigation Division, the latest installment in the series features a mix of new and returning cast members.

The film appears to have made a solid start at the box office. According to figures compiled by Eiga Tsushinsha, the film drew 605,000 admissions and earned 894 million yen in its first three days from opening day.

It opened at No. 2 in the weekend box office rankings, behind "Chiikawa the Movie."

By September 23, the final day of Japan's Silver Week holiday period, the film had recorded 1.18 million admissions and 1.69 billion yen in box office revenue over its first six days. As of September 24, cumulative admissions had reached 1.25 million, with box office revenue at 1.797 billion yen. Another organization's figures have also estimated that the film surpassed 2 billion yen after nine days.

That represents about 75 percent of the level recorded by the previous film, "Odoru Daisousasen THE FINAL Atarashinaru Kibou," released in 2012, which earned 5.97 billion yen in total and had a stronger opening over its first three days.

The series has grossed more than 52.4 billion yen across its eight previous films. Given the 14-year gap since the previous installment, many observers have described the latest film's performance as solid.

One analysis has also suggested that the film is likely to finish with box office revenue of at least 3 billion yen unless there is a particularly sharp decline in attendance.

SHIORI appeared at the stage greeting held on the film's opening day and said:

"I had always hoped that someday I could appear in Odoru Daisousasen, one of director Motohiro's signature works. I was really happy when he offered me the role this time."

This marks SHIORI's first collaboration with director Motohiro in 11 years, since all four members of MCZ appeared in his 2015 film "Maku ga Agaru."
