Christmas Concert was held.

Last weekend, MCZ's Christmas concert “Momoiro Christmas 2024 -HOLY 4D NIGHT-” was held at Saitama Super Arena on Saturday and Sunday.

According to a post by KAWAKAMI producer X, 17,972 people attended DAY 1 and 17,764 people attended DAY 2, for a total of over 35,000 people over the two days.

More details about the concert can be found on the official website of EVILLINE RECORD.

As previously reported, we went to see Day 1.

This year's concert was not staged by video director ATSUNORI Sasaki, which had been the basis of MCZ's Christmas live performances, but was organized by a new staff.

Perhaps because of this, there was no live performance by the Downtown Momoclo Band, as there had been for the past several years, and the performance was a recording.

And the live set was also very simple, with almost everything performed only on a video screen, except for one box, which was an elevator.

On the other hand, the use of many technological gimmicks that had been discontinued in recent years, such as the use of spider cams to capture images from above the arena, the use of drones to film the stage, the use of controlled penlights to control the light, and the introduction of a smell mechanism, set the show apart from previous shows.

As a result, Mononofus' evaluations seemed to be divided.

In the social media, the term “both sides of the argument” was often used.

In our opinion, even though there were certainly aspects that did not go well, the spirit of the management in breaking away from convention and attempting a new challenge was commendable.

On the other hand, regardless of such changes in stage direction, the singing and performance abilities of the MCZ members were overwhelming.

It had been almost a year since the last time all four members performed together in a large hall, but it was clear that the members skills have matured even at this age.

In the latter half of the winter song “Koyoi live no motode (means 'Tonight, Under the Live')” performed on both days, there was a scene in which KANAKO spoke a line.

At Christmas live performances in past years, it has been a standard practice to use this part of the song as an alternate version of the song, KANAKO shouting “Merry Christmas!“ as a variation of the song.

However, this year, KANAKO did not change the lyrics of the original song, but said the below.

Many Mononofus may have sensed MCZ's feelings toward their Christmas live in this part of the song.

What percentage of their performances are done with a live band versus a recording?

Except for the period of the Corona disaster, the band was basically used for large summer and winter concerts, and for spring concerts (Haruno Ichi daiji) and national tours, the band was basically used for recorded performances.
However, the spring concert at the National Stadium in 2014 was with a band and did not follow this rule.

Thanks. Are the shows-with-band regarded differently by the fans than those without?

(As much as the Momoclo ladies are the stars of the show I always enjoy seeing them more with the live band playing.)

Hi. It was relatively easy to find the entrance to Saitama Super Arena in the 2 days. As you said, there were signs on how to get in, although everything was in Japanese... 😅

Personally, I liked day 2 more than day 1. However, on both days I was a bit disappointed. After watching the performances via Blurays, I was expecting more from their performance. Maybe the problem is the change of producer, and there being no band. Maybe I misinterpreted the Japanese people, but I saw them around me and it seemed like some of them disliked the show.

As it happens, the opinion of RICARD, who wrote in after this, seems to be representative.
It seems that many were disappointed that there was no band at this show.
*
However, in past years, there have been some disappointments that only a band can make, such as the band's arrangement being too big and spoiling the impression of the original song.
*
It is quite difficult to produce a performance that everyone can agree on...

We mononofus are sorry to hear that you were not able to fully enjoy the event, even though you came all the way from far away.

However, MCZ's large-scale concerts, both in spring and summer, have a unique atmosphere, so we hope that you will not learn from this experience and come back again...

Last year I went to Osaka to see Cho Tokimeki Sendenbu's concert. That was a great concert, without a band but with a great performance from all 6 members. So I don't really think it's a problem with the band. Maybe it's because the disappointment is recent, but this was probably the last time I came to Japan to see Momoiro Clover Z.

Yes, I know I don't make a difference, but I really felt sad. I made an effort to pay for the flight from Mexico, accommodation, tickets, food. And the performance didn't seem the best to me. Maybe I had high expectations compared to when they were younger.
